June Chepkemei is Managing Marketing & Corporate Communications at Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA) – mandated by the Government of Kenya to implement the Konza Technopolis project. KoTDA, a semi-autonomous government agency is tasked with building Kenya’s 1st Smart Techno City whose aim is to create a new economic driver for the nation and be an innovation hub.
In addition to her role in the Marketing & Communications Division, June is the Project Coordinator for a New Institute of Strategic National Importance: Kenya Advance Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) being developed by Ministry of ICT & Digital Economy in partnership with The Ministry of Education (MoE). She has also Pioneered the Konza Innovation Ecosystem Initiative that is bringing together the various stakeholders within the industry to support the commercialization of Research, Innovation and the Development of new solutions and enterprises within Konza.
The initiative was voted 3rd Most inspiring solution by the International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP).
Before joining KoTDA, June was the Communications Business Partner at Safaricom Limited having worked for 6 years in the Media Industry rising through the ranks to become a Business News Editor, TV & Radio talk show host. June was appointed by the Cabinet Secretary – Information, Communications, Technology, Innovation, and Youth Affairs to the Taskforce on the Kenya Media Policy Guidelines.
She was named among the Top 25 Women in Digital 2021. She holds a Masters Degree in Communications Studies from Moi University, a Bachelors Degree in PR & Communications, Postgraduate Diploma In Professional Marketing, from The Chartered Institute Of Marketing UK, Executive training program on Innovation from Stanford Centre For Professional Development, and is currently pursuing Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Information Science.
June is a Chartered Marketer by the Charted Institute of Marketing (CIM), UK. She is also a Member of Public Relations Society of Kenya and Women Chapter of the International Association of Science Parks and Areas of innovation (IASP).
In 2022, June successfully led the country in a bid to host the 41st International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation (IASP) world conference 2024. She was part of the team that delivered Tech and Innovation Jamuhuri in 2022 as a deputy chairperson.
